Reading

IMG_2144

I read to the kids most days.  When they were all very little I remember wondering if anything so  helpful would really happen…Brooke reading to the boys.  Love it!

A Trip to the Zoo

We had a beautiful spring like day last week so we went to the zoo.  We’re learning about  Africa in school so we took pictures of all the animals that were from Africa and Brooke made a travel brochure with them.

We read a story called How the Ostrich Got Its Long Neck so then Brooke wrote a story called How the Zebra Got Its Stripes.

A long, long time ago in Africa something strange happened.  It happened so long ago that the zebra was still black and they were very timid.  Also zebra didn’t stay together.  They went wherever they wanted.  Now in the United States there was an artist named John la Newbert.  This man wanted to see how many different patterns of white stripes he could make on lots of black things.  But Mr. John did not have lots of black things.  So he decided to search for some.  He looked all over the world but nothing was quite right, so at last he had searched everywhere but Africa.  He decided to finish off his search and go to Africa.  As soon as he got there he realized he had found what he was looking for.  The zebras were perfect.  He immediately got to work.  He rounded up all the zebra and began to paint and paint and paint.  Soon he painted all the zebra.  Then he sprayed them with stick in a can (which made the paint stick on).  Then he let them loose again.  By now the zebra had gotten so used to being together and were so scared of the stranger that when he let them loose the zebra stayed together even when they ran.  After that all the new baby zebras had stripes too.  As for Mr. John, he went back home to draw snowmen.  The End.

Dead Sea Scrolls

Joshua was honored to be able to work on the Dead Sea Scrolls before they were on exhibit at Southwestern.  Here is a picture of one of the fragments that he translated.

Winter Weather

There’s never a guarantee of cold weather or snow or ice so it’s exciting when it comes.  They were having a great time outside during their school break one morning.

Luke

Luke got his Batman raincoat for Christmas and he was so proud to wear it on a rainy day.

I had Luke’s clothes picked out for church and he asked if he could wear a suit instead.  He even wanted to wear it again on Sunday night to church.  He was a sharp dressed little boy.

Telling Time

A big clock on the floor really helped Seth get excited about learning to tell time. IMG_2071

Happy New Year!

After taking a year off from blogging, I think I will return this year.

This picture was taken after church on the first Sunday of 2013.
