Learning More About Asia

IMG_2336

Eliya and Teresa spent a couple of hours with us teaching us about Japan.  Eliya is from Japan and met Teresa there while she was teaching.  We learned a lot!

Overnight at the Zoo

To celebrate Seth’s birthday we spent the night at the Fort Worth Zoo.  It was an event open to members of the zoo.  It felt like we were taking a whole lot of stuff (top left picture) for just one night at the zoo.  When you have to take your own bedding though we decided it was important to take air mattresses and mats.  When we arrived at the zoo we learned a few rules for the night and then we had pizza.

Then we were off to begin our tour of the zoo at night.  It was really fun being in there after hours.  Seth decided to wear all camo (including his thermals underneath-it was not cold though).  One guy asked him if he was a boy scout because he was so prepared.  He carried his backpack too.

The flamingos were very active at night.  I have been to the zoo lots of times and have never seen them so busy.  The penguins were busy swimming until they saw our group walk up and they all waddled over to the glass as if they were so excited to see us.  It really made Brooke laugh (you can tell by the picture below).

Then off to the Texas wild.

So what else goes on at the zoo at night?  The trash gets taken out and the van below that must have come over from Africa when the zoo first opened was the cleaning crew.

Then the flamingos were going for a swim and still very noisy.

So after some sleep….I think Finding Nemo was turned off about 11 p.m. and this big room is where we slept with strangers.  It was surprisingly very quiet.  Our morning started at 7 with cleaning up our stuff and breakfast.

Then we had live animal presentations.  We saw a 1 year old alligator and Violet the Opossum,  hissing cockroaches (not my favorite) and then Jack the Penguin.  They thought Jack was a boy until one day Jack laid an egg.  Jack was very obedient and would follow the trainer when she said come on Jack.  Then we had let them know we were celebrating Seth’s birthday so he got to go up front and have his picture taken by Jack.

Then out into the zoo before opening time.  I have never seen the hippo out of the water so this was neat to get to see them.

The lions were roaring in the morning.

It was a fun, fun time!  When we got home and put Seth to bed that night he said he missed the zoo.  Smile

Seth’s 7th Birthday

The morning started off with a few gifts and he requested Sausage Muffins for his birthday breakfast.  Then we did a little school and then went to the park with our friends the Patrick family.  Then we had pizza for dinner with chocolate cake and green icing with sprinkles-he picked it because it looked like camo.  Then more gifts.  We love you Seth.  We know God has amazing plans for your life.
